The Dentist!

Sophia had her first trip to the dentist the other day. She sat in the room with me while I got my teeth cleaned and watched very carefully and quietly. When it was her turn, she did not want to get in the chair. So, the dentist talked to her for a few minutes about other stuff and then asked if she would sit in the chair on my lap so he could count her teeth and just look at them, not clean them like mom had done.
She finally agreed and climbed up on my lap and opened her mouth so she could have her teeth counted. She was pretty excited afterward that she had nice, cavity free princess teeth and that she got to pick a prize out of the box!

Aaron was nice enough to take some pictures of us sitting in the chair together:

So, Sophia and I had good check-ups, but Aaron on the other hand. . .all of his teeth were fine except one. One of his permanent teeth in the back is starting to decay all ready even though it just came in, in the last 6 months. And there is a huge cavity in it. The dentist said it wasn't anything Aaron could have done to prevent it, it was just a bad tooth for some reason. He talked about putting cap on it, but was concerned that it wouldn't last very long and that he would have to keep doing it over and over again, so his suggestion was to put a gold crown on it. Our insurance doesn't cover gold crowns until kids are 16 for some reason, so the dentist said he would write a letter explaining the situation and send a picture of his tooth to see if they won't help cover some of it. If they don't cover any it, the dentist was kind enough to say he would charge us the minimal amount, but even then it will still cost us anywhere from $600-800!!
The dentist said the tooth needed to be taken care of sooner than later so it doesn't start rotting his roots or something and having to end up needing a root canal! We are waiting to hear back from the insurance company in the next week or so. Hopefully they will cover some of it.
